Everybody in the business (exports) knew the impact of the New Trade Deal.
I wrote about it more than a year ago, when it was first proposed.
The New Trade Deal meant they were targeting our market share - we were basically being cannabilized.
They could have made it progressive over time - like 5 to 10 years, but they didn't. Trump wanted immediate results.
They could have targetted other products. Again, they chose NOT to.
It was a strategic decision Trump and his team made, in order for him to win those critical States in this election year.
Whether we could win back some of those markets will depend on a number of factors:
- Growth in China, and
- Chinese taste
Despite the deluded perceptions, the world Does Not gravitate towards US Goods. Its the reason why the US runs a trade deficit with most countries on this planet - for more than 40 years.
Another interesting fact - the EU has about the same Trade Surplus with the US as does China.

Great points and fair enough but I see nothing about Trump doing a number on us, as with the Europe comparison we may have been watching Americas two faced diplomacy in play... something more about bringing an expansionist bully to heel while also earning votes at home.
