@kingpins; my mum spent her last three years in an aged care home and was fortunate to have family members who work in the industry looking out for her welfare as well as some thirty grandkids and a dozen great grandkids.
Collectively we ensured that what the aged care home did not provide that we did so, including an adjustable bed and a pretty nifty mobility scooter.
We were shocked at the incredibly low staffing levels on duty after dark and often listened to our Mum's reports of others screaming during the night for hours without being attended to. Likewise with her diet, what was provided was pretty basic so that we regularly took her out for lunches and provided special foods she requested.
It's to Australia's shame that professionals including Professor Ron Paterson have been driven to the point of pubicly castigating government for its ongoing abject failures and greed-driven fascist links to businesses profiting from human misery and abuse of personal dignity in their final years.
