Aus is one of the last clingers to the monarchic skirts and I blame the romantic attachment of Robert Menzies for our over-long limpet-like adherence to the archaic system that robs the people for the luxury of elitism.
But Peter FitzSimon's new model is not much different to the Howard model, rejected 45:55 by referendum as there wasn't sufficient democracy involved. Fitzsimons model only offers a limited vote for a sovereign role similar to the Gov Gen.... in other words, no meaningful change toward a better democracy.
any move to form a republic should engage first with the majority of Aussies to determine what is the most needed democratic reforms in the governance model, a full review of the outdated constitution.
yes Morrison could advance this proposal but it would be meaningless as there would be inadequate time to debate and form a new model for referendum. I don't know if Morrison is a monarchist but the erstwhile leader in the House, Abbott, certainly loves the Queen with a passion....
by nature, most monarchists are conservative (protection of old traditional values) and so Morrison would be unlikely to be vocal in supporting such a move.

I am all for a Republic as much for symbolic reasons as anything else but what is the actual problems with being as we are?
What would improve Scott?
Definitely not my area of expertise so would be great to get input from more knowledgably passionate pro republicans. Will we have to vote for Trump then? lol
