Any form of consensus control takes away individual freedoms and just as well because without consensus govt it would be a debacle. Dictatorships certainly take away freedoms as do other forms of control through Monarchies.
Democracy is so far the most sophisticated way to empower individuals through the vote. There is no better social system. All democracies tend to be socialistic in nature because they make decisions for the common good and their performance is periodically assessed at an individual level through the vote.
