I do a fair amount of public speaking and those moments when emotion wells up out of nowhere are the worst moments, the very worst is when the mind goes completely blank and the mouth is still engaged , There's not necessarily any rhyme nor reason to them. I've found it's better to pause and settle rather than let the blather continue ...audiences are very forgiving if you demonstrate some self deprecation.
