Sounds like you're justifying proliferating the status quo for a service that in most cases is not necessary.
There are plenty of countries around the world where the reliance on mortgage brokers is not requured due to a better education & more transparent systems.
You're vastly over complicating a relatively simple process.
Brokers are not independent due to their reliance on the providers commissions, they do not necessarily advise custoners on what ĺis in their best interest or save them from 'making the wrong decisions' only convincing them of what they think is going to get them the sale.
You only have to look at the % of people signed up to IO mortages which were not only completely inappropriate but in around a third of the customers didn't even know they weren't paying any of the principle back!
I don't necessarily blame mortgage brokers but the crazy mortgage industry that Australia has, the brokers are just milking the system.
