    G'day Andrew,

It is true there has been some archealogical evidence produce to support Biblical stories. The previous evidence of the walls of Jericho has now been shown to be one thousand years wide of the mark - not just five, ten or twenty -. i.e. decades ago when the wall falling down was discoverd by archealogists it was automatically ascribed to the Bible story. In other words they found what they wanted to find - nothing knew in that.

Some recent history of archeology in the Middle east shows that much of the early work in the 1920's and '30's was carried out by enthusiastic amateurs who were mostly clerics - which is not surprising why they found what they were looking for, 'overlooking' other evidence. After WWII and the resettlement of the Jewish population Ben Gurion set up some archeological digs which were really designed to show the historical jewish links - i.e. again not objective. It is only in the past thirty years or so that objective work and analysis has been conducted.
