IF the boat was in international waters what right does the Australian Navy have in turning it back?
I feel it is important to stop illegal immigration via people coming into Australia and NZ ilegaly but it seems gun boat diplomacy in this case at the best and legitimised piracy at the worst of what Abbott has just implemented, unless there was a signed document stating the refugees wanted to return .
There are better ways to prevent illegal immigrants arriving that are seemingly legal ie bombing the refugees out of the water when they enter Australian waters as it would be in Australia's national interest given that there is a possibility some could be terrorists a precedent has been set for this in how foreign drones have been legitimised in destroying possible terrorist targets amongst civilians in Pakistan
