malgmac, obviously some Dy was exported in magnet alloys, but at what proportion if Showa Denko are achieving 6% Dy substitution????
If you are one of the Dysy 1.01 crew shouldn't Dy to Japan actually be increasing to marry with the 630t NdPr Lynas supplied last Q?
630t NdPr 30% by weight = 2100t NdFeB x 4% Dy = 84t or x 2% Dy = 42t
Yet Japan imported 628kg???
While Dy is currently priced at $200kg + 17% VAT???
Relative imports NdPr vs Dy will tell the story, or rather confirm what the magnet manufacturers are already telling those without their head in the sand.
SDK has therefore been promoting R&D on Dy-free magnetic alloys, succeeding this time in developing a Dy-free magnetic alloy that gives the same performance as conventional products in which 4% by weight of Dy is added. (SDK is already mass-producing a Dy-free alloy comparable to conventional products in which 2% by weight of Dy is added.)
Comparison, by magnet application, of levels of added Dy (in terms of ratio by weight)
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 0 Conventionalproducts SDK’s products Main applications of magnets 1 1% 0% Motors and speakers of communication equipment 2 2% 0% Voice coil motors for HDDs; wind-power generation motors 3 4% 0%Realized this time Factory automation 4 6% 2% Electrically-assisted power steering for vehicles 5 8% 4% Motors and power generators for hybrid cars and electric vehicles
Based on the new technology, SDK is working to further reduce the levels of added Dy. Next year (2014), SDK will develop another new grade of Dy-free magnetic alloy that gives the same performance as conventional products in which 6% by weight of Dy is added.
Wot's so hard to understand?
R.I.P. Dy
