A few highlights from the article:
Worries aired over coal gasification dam ... South Burnett Mayor David Carter says the consultative committee he chairs has concerns about the moisture content of the red soil used in the dam ... "We've got a couple of questions still about the dam," ... "The committee is working very well to get a good relationship between the community and Cougar."
From the recent Cougar announcement:
The evaporation pond for collection and re-use of production water has been finished and LINED.
"Lined" most likely means a site welded HDPE membrane and mention of "red clays" is most likely the strata into which the dam has been excavated (from or close to existing ground level) or possibly the material that has been used for a raised embankment construction.
Len Walker is a Geotechnical Engineer (as is Dex) and no self respecting Geotechnical Engineer would encourage use of poor moisture control in clay embankment construction.
Having said that, if the dam is lined with a site welded HDPE membrane it would be extremely difficult for anything to leak through unless the membrane was damaged (or sabotaged by a churlish CSG fanatic or a frustrated UCG competitor lol).
The consultative committee will be able to sleep at night imo.
Back to the MOU topic, a lot will be forgiven for the current sp if there are appropriate new MOUs in the pipeline ... at some stage there has to be some solid project plans announced for Wandoan (why continue to upgrade an already large JORC otherwise?) ... I am thinking an MOU to introduce a respected refiner or similar to investigate the potential of methanation and GTL ... pipe dreams though as the pressing imperative is Kingaroy Stage 1 200MW!
