Rather than face pressure to process their ores in the US, I think it would be the case where MP would be attracted to processing in the US. They don't process it now as Shenghe does that. As I understand they plan to process their ores very close to their mine, with all the advantages that brings, plus proximity to the US market (which is expected to appear with the arrival of the subsidiised magnet manufacturers).

As for Lynas processing MP ore in Texas; Lynas's ore is monasite a different kind of ore to MP's bastnasite so that could put a spanner in the works. On the other hand, bastnasite is cheaper to process as I understand. MP are planning to process their own ore to make more money and gain their independence from Chinese processing care of Shenghe. MP could end up processing other company's bastnasite ores rather than Lynas as it is much more common than monasite I believe. Any industrial chemists care to comment?
