Libs are certainly not helping. The $13 mill grant is from ARENA - the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. Abbott and co plan to reduce its funding by $435 million, hardly a sign of enthusiasm for renewable energy development.

Nor is there anything positive for renewables from the proposed abolition of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

Repeal of the carbon tax will also result in competing energy sources, coal and gas, remaining relatively cheap - so no long-term, market-based, price incentive there either for renewables.

In general, gas-powered electricity is a better bet in the short-term as a mechanism for reducing greenhouse gas emissions relative to coal, but it still won't be attractive to those of us wanting a cleaner planet. But if the gas gets exported and becomes too expensive for use in electricity generation in Australia then we're back to Tony's cheap coal - and somewhere else will get the environmental benefit.

Can't blame for PTR for trying another tack if the first didn't work out, the blame for which I place on the right side of politics.
