...How will 7-eleven make their money on EV stations?...

It is important to understand that most petrol stations make very low margins selling fuel, that's why you see them spending ever more $/attention on creating potential add on sales when they build new stations or renovate their older ones.

In7-Elevens case, they will install 'Fast Chargers' and all charging stations will be owned by them, this should allow for much greater margins looking towards 2025 onwards, in comparison with the fuel which they need to buy from a 3rd party...as the renewable electricity supply will become ever grater = cheaper = better margins, but by installing the fast chargers they will also ensure their businesses will remain relevant during the inevitable transition period, as it will ensure they will capture both ICE and EV customers who will continue buying their other offerings instead of bypassing them and using stand alone EV chargers or to their competitors

...The vast majority of charging is done at home at night...

Currently, I believe you are correct, as majority of the early adopters here in AUS have a house and garage w/power point. Mainstream has not transitioned as yet due to:

    * All EV's available to date here in AUS are priced out of reach for most buyers when they compare what ICE they can buy for the same $$
    * Most Inner City unit owners/renters don't have PowerPoints in their cars paces
    * The rest don't have an actual car space and have to park on the street.

Initiatives like the 7Eleven (and there are many more happening around the world on a weekly basis) will eliminate one of those barriers.
The imminent arrival of affordable EV's will eliminate another one of the main hurdles and then we will see more and more of these kind of simple charging
option, not many here in AUS, but plenty in many Europe Cities:
