ESI, COLDRY are designed to burn at supercritical temperatures.

The boiler and turbines in the latrobe valley are all sub-critical boiler and turbines.

They are designed for brown coal NOT black coal equivalent. big difference in rated temperatures.


In theory you could use say 5-10% BCE, which the company has stated before, this is true because you would not technically go outside the current design limits of temperature and pressure. but you can not burn more than this because once you go above that mix the boilers and turbines are not rated for BCE, hence have no use.

also you can not slow the feed down because you have to produce XMW/h to get operational efficines out of the system.....

you can not retrofit boilers because a modern plant is not built with just 1 boiler! but many other parts which are all equally temperature rated.
