The blanket NO from the coalition greens here appears to be wearing thin as is the recent popularity polls for the government. The conservation minister (green party) has been totally sidelined. Her blanket NO to Oceana Gold expansion has been overruled.
The approval for the previously declined new coal mine at Te Kuha has been approved to go to the supreme court.
A new green party has been formed (appropriately named Sustainability NZ) claiming conservation and economic benefits can live side by side. They are not happy with the dogmatic green party approach.
Also the prospect of 1,000 jobs being lost at the aluminium smelter at Bluff in the South Island has not been lost on this government.
    Clearly interesting times ahead.
