CS Energy went the conservative route with a new coal fired power station at a time of historically low coal prices when they stiffed LNC after the very successful ucg trial by Walker/Ergo circa 1999 to 2002.

I would imagine that at the time the numbers didnt stack up.

Trouble is coal prices have since doubled and carbon emission now matter. Just a few years on they would have to rue the 30 yr design life of their coal fired power station as ucg is already probably a cheaper proposition, even without a carbon tax.

Anyone with an axe to grind can certainly twist events around.
