Jake , you are right to raise doubts. Stanwell deal can only proceed to development and cashflow IF ICN proves up the required reserves. They are nowhere close to that at this point , so the only options that Stanwell have are either to drop the whole deal , OR , continue to spend money but over a wider area, so that the proven reserves can be found, appraised and certified. Being a Govt outfit probably means that they wont have the ball$ to walk away and admit defeat, so my guess is that they will spend some more money in the hope of proving up the required reserves.
If Stanwell decide to walk away it will obviously be bad for the sp, but if they stay it wont be a major boost for the sp,....more likely a few cents.
Stanwell/Qld Govt probably have literally dozens of employees that will already know which way Stanwell are going and there is a good chance this is where any leaks are coming from.
