Two Pakatan MPs have been ordered out of the Parliament today by speaker Datuk Seri Pandikar Amin Mulia, after they insisted on tabling a petition to debate the Lynas plant issue.
Pandikar ejected PKR’s Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh and Padang Serai MP N. Surendran, when both insisted, at different times, why he had rejected a petition filed on the Lynas' Temporary Operating License (TOL) from being read in the House today.

He did not indicate how long the duo are suspended, although a suspension could last several days.

This is the first time Fuziah has been ejected from Parliament, and the fourth for Surendran, since the last general election.

Surendran had just returned from a lenghty six-month suspension imposed on him in November. – June 17, 2014.

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR’s Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh and the party's Padang Serai representative N. Surendran were ejected from the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday for refusing to sit down despite being warned by the Speaker.

Several other Opposition MPs walked out in solidarity when the PKR parliamentarians were thrown out.

The two ejected MPs will only be able to return to the Dewan on Thursday.

Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia threw the reps out after Fuziah tried to question a decision made by him over her petition regarding the Lynas rare earth plant in Kuantan.

While arguing the rejection, she accused the Speaker of siding with the Government, adding that the “Dewan Rakyat should listen to the voices of the people”.

Pandikar, who was clearly irked responded, “You continue to attack the position of the Speaker. When your motion is rejected, you continue to make statements outside the House.

“You attack your institution (Parliament) which has been established by the Federal Constitution. This is our democracy based on our Constitution,” he said.

This caused Surendran to stand up and retort Pandikar’s comment to which the Speaker replied, “Are you denying that you made a press statement outside of House (criticising Parliament)?

“We have the recording of all the statements you have made within the perimetre of this Parliament,” Pandikar said, warning both Fuziah and Surendran to sit down.

Surendran was suspended for six months previously for making a statement outside the Dewan, criticising the Malaysian Parliament and likening it to a “Robert Mugabe Parliament”.

When Surendran and Fuziah refused to do sit down, Pandikar threw both out.

At a press conference at the lobby following their ejection, Fuziah said her petition was presented at a crucial time to stop the temporary operating license for Lynas being converted into a permanent one.

“Fifty people have signed this petition. The Speaker rejected the petition for reasons including that he was satisfied with the Government’s response that Lynas had fulfilled the licensing criteria,” she said.

Fuziah said she was unhappy with the reasoning and wanted to make her case on the matter.

“If you reject us, at least give us space to discuss the reason behind the rejection,” she said.
