Ahaha.
Your moral indignation is misplaced if you owned MQG because you thought the company was operating in the renewables space for some kind of virtuous reasons.
These guys make a living on coat-tailing wherever global capital is flowing at any given point in time; if it's a hot sector, they'll go there to make a margin: airports, toll roads, ports, airlines, infrastructure, technology, solar farms, LNG, power transmission, pipelines, chemicals, aerospace, defence, healthcare.... whatever is the prevailing capital market fad.
So that they are losing interest in renewables is because the fees from that particular goose are now drying up, so it's onto the next new and shiny thing. So anyone to get all uppity about a pivoting away from renewables simply doesn't understand the Macquarie business model.
In terms of the next new and shiny thing, my guess a few months back was that data centres and AI were where Macquarie's millionaire bankers would pop up.
