we dont need highspeed rail between Sydney and Newcastle.
Why bother, saving 45 minutes on the maximum trip is a poor return.
I can understand people not wanting to live in the rat race that is Sydney, but remote working has shown most dont need to comute anyway.
Money would be better spent on rail freight infrastructure.
