Discovery is not a job restricted to geologists, as Minesite found when it uncovered a hidden gem halfway up the Yarri Road leading from Australia’s gold capital, Kalgoorlie, to what is called, politely, the middle of nowhere. It is at a location known as Lindsays that Carrick Gold has quietly drilled up a resource of two million ounces, and is busily working towards an initial target of five million ounces. To describe those numbers as a surprise is a spectacular under-statement. Two million ounces, let alone the five being targeted, makes Lindsays one of the best Australian gold discoveries in the past 20 years. The fact that it is just 60 kilometres from Kalgoorlie, and has gone almost totally unreported in Australia, is an even bigger surprise, until a little more digging is done to reveal that Carrick itself has been ignored because it refused to play by the local rules, and is controlled by a newcomer to the mining world.
