    Critical Infrastruction Protection

Enhancing Industrial Plant Safety and Infrastructure Protection Through UV Applications with Electronic Ballistic Payload Delivery Systems

    Session # 731

    Date/Venue Wednesday, 17 August, 2011 14:00 -14:30 , Room 145A

    Description

Commercial industrial applications of UV's can be enhanced through the use of electronic ballistic payload delivery systems. The applicability of such a delivery system is compatible with air, ground, and maritime platforms. Attendees will learn why electronic ballistic delivery systems are ideal for remote operations and networked systems and how they help assure effective outcome and maximize volume of delivery to volume of area occupied ratios through deterministic timing of delivery rates and configurable payload delivery pods while providing a high level of readiness with long term storage without maintenance. Industrial applications include automated or articulated delivery for firefighting, hazardous material neutralization, detection sensors for toxic materials, and emergency devices to plant workers. These applications can provide an enhanced level of situational awareness and protection for plant employees and infrastructure as well as for neighboring properties.

    Track(s) Critical Infrastructure Protection

Session Type Technical Presentation Learning Objectives Educate providers and users of UV's on electronic ballistic payload delivery systems so that they can utilize such attributes as deterministic timing of delivery rates and configurable payload pods to enhance effectiveness of their UV remotely operated or networked payload delivery system and maximize volume of delivery to volume of area occupied ratios for their UV platforms while minimizing maintenance and maintaining a high level of readiness of their platforms when in storage.

    Methodology
Given the time constraint a PowerPoint presentation will be utilized. Opening slides will show a list of commercial industry payload delivery applications (i.e. fire suppressants, hazardous material neutralizing reagents, inert blanketing material etc.) to get audience thinking of applications. This will be followed with a brief introduction and questions regarding providers, users and if any applications noted are being implemented so everyone else has a feel for the audience complexion. In turn an overview of electronic ballistic payload delivery systems (components and attributes) will be presented with a brief overview of how attributes are achieved by design. This will be followed by either an animated slide or video presentation of one of the applications and then opened to discussion, Q&A. Conclusion.

Provide Session Abstract Commercial industrial applications of UV's can be enhanced through the utilization of electronic ballistic payload delivery systems.
The applicability of such a payload delivery system is compatible with most all platforms for air, ground, and maritime UV's. Electronic based delivery systems are ideal for remote operations and can be network centric providing for coordination of payload delivery control for single or multiple UV's or integration with additional fixed or movable systems, manned or unmanned, and plant safety or physical security systems.
Electronic based delivery systems also offer the ability to provide deterministic timing of delivery rates to assure effective outcome yet provide for maximum utilization of the available payload. Electronic ballistic payload delivery systems also provide the ability to configure the payload delivery pod to accommodate both the payload and UV requirements.
Configurable payload pods provide a high delivery volume to volume of area occupied ratio that are typically much greater than conventional delivery systems. More importantly, payload delivery pods are sealed enabling long term storage without maintenance to assure readiness when needed. Integration is easy as most systems are provided with simple "Plug and Play" type application interfaces.
With technology available today very complex systems can be provided in small hardened packages.
These and other attributes that can enhance the design and capability of UV platforms will be presented.
