While it is always good to have the Cobalt Blue Holding proprietary cobalt processing methodology as a backup, The Big Picture has to be an integrated minerals processing industry in South Australia via a ‘roaster and acid plant’ at Whyalla [if SIMEC follows the smart path and builds one to lock in non-conflict supply of cobalt for its EV/EB business] producing valuable products including sulphuric acid, cobalt sulphate, iron oxide and electricity:

Based on reviewing again Dr Giles' CTTW video presentation from 26 June 2018, I extracted some ‘sound bites’ from around the 10 minute mark on that video:

“What we call The Big Picture. It’s about developing an integrated mineral processing industry in South Australia.

We have a unique opportunity based on just resources that we have alone, up in the Curnamona Craton, to develop a great industry in South Australia.

And I hope I can inspire you with our thoughts.

So if you take the Kalkaroo deposit and the Mutooroo deposits they are very conventional grinding flotation, they produce very nice copper-gold concentrates, there are no impurities, no arsenic, no uranium they are beautiful concentrates that you could sell anywhere in the world.

So you can do that for both deposits, but that is only part of the story because associated with the copper sulphides are a lot of iron sulphides: pyrite and pyrrhotite, particularly pyrite.

Now all of this pyrite is actually cobaltian pyrite. So these deposits, for example, Kalkaroo has 23 thousand tonnes of cobalt, as I said Mutooroo also has cobalt.

All of this cobalt is contained in the cobaltian pyrite. So that means, when you do the [copper] flotation process you end up with a tail, a pyrite tail, if you clean it up it is a beautiful cobalt deposit.

Our pyrite tails run 1 to 1.5% copper, 2 to 5 grams gold and 0.4% cobalt, which in their own right is a very nice mineral resource.

Kalkaroo, for example, will produce about 400,000 tonnes [per annum] of that.

Now how do you get the cobalt out? If you have the capital and you build a ‘roaster and acid plant’ you produce sulphuric acid of which we have a vast deficit in this Country, and particularly in this State, you produce cobalt salts which Mr Gupta would be very pleased to use in his batteries I am sure, you produce iron oxide which we can deal with, and you also produce about 16 to 20 megawatt’s, from a 0.5 million tonne plant roaster, of clean electricity with not one millilitre of carbon dioxide.

We could do all of this in South Australia if we had this [‘roaster and acid’] plant, with the ore feed we’ve got, we could do this for 20 years. What a great industry for our State and our kids.

The logical conclusion, the inevitable conclusion as far as we are concerned is that for us standing still is just not an option…”
