From the June 2018 GFG Alliance Sustainable brochure, it says all the magnetite (from the Middleback Ranges in South Australia) is used at the Whyalla steelworks:

The hematite SIMEC mines in South Australia is mainly exported.

So Mr Gupta has a lot less Fe feedstock for his Whyalla steelworks than I estimated, if the majority of the hematite is being exported.

Makes Maldorky and Grants (and Grants Iron Ore Basin) that much appealing.

I also note that SIMEC has copper-gold exploration projects in South Australia (per the extract above).
