Inpex says yes to final investment decision

Japanese gas company Inpex and its French partner Total have indicated they will build a $25 billion gas project in Darwin and Western Australia.
The company indicated it would go ahead with the Ichthys project in a full-page advertisement in today's Northern Territory News, ahead of an official announcement this morning.
Construction on the Blaydin Point plant in Darwin Harbour and a worker's camp in the city's rural area is expected to begin quickly.
The Territory Government estimates several thousand workers will be needed to build the plant, which will process natural gas piped from the Browse Basin in Western Australia.
Inpex and Total have already signed long-term sale and purchase agreements for the gas with Japanese and Taiwanese utility companies.
The first gas from the plant is expected to be produced in 2016.
