Absolutely. The ASX has already dropped due to uncertainty regarding the new variant. Whether it continues to drop is another question.

Personally I don't think it will have any medium or long term impact on the stock market, or MRQ.

If we look at how the market responded to the Delta variant, first detected in October 2020, the ASX climbed from 5,800 OCT 1 to 5,960 OCT 30. A month later, the ASX was at 6,605. Admittedly, the ASX was still recovering from the March lows. But different strains of COVID emerging has largely been priced in now, and shouldn't take the world by surprise.

On another note, it's worth noting that the term "blocked travel" is not a complete travel ban for the affected countries. Essential travel is still permitted. Only a select few nations have halted direct flights. Indirect flights are still permitted.

TLDR - nothing to worry about.
