If as what you said, 'they had probably been short-selling more GNS shares' Aren't they requested to announce this activity if they did so?

I can understand what you were saying about this 'short-selling' however, 'short-selling' is usually used when sp intended to go down - in this case, the sp climbed up a lot and they will definitely make a lot of lost if they have to purchase stocks to fulfill 'short-selling' commitment.

Am I wrong here with this 'short-selling' principle?
