I should explain a bit further.

New, experimental medications, medications derived from human tissues, and expensive medications are very tightly regulated in hospitals.

    MSCs fit all 3.

To use these medications for TGA approved reasons is even a hassle, often involving paperwork, consents, getting approval from pharmacy, getting approval from specialists, applying for approval through various associations, etc.

If it was approved for aGVHD and my hospital had a stock of it, it wouldn't be in the drug cupboard.

I wouldn't be able, as a doctor, see a patient with chronic back pain in ED and write "11/5/22 - Remestemcell - I/A - stat" and have it given as an injection.

It would be kept in a specific place in the hospital, likely blood bank (maybe pharmacy but I doubt it), in very specific quantities.

For example, if I want to use remdesivir, which I commonly prescribe, I need to get a consent, call infectious disease for approval, order from pharmacy, and fill out a long online form to register my patient. And if they don't fit very specific criteria, I can't give it. Or I get a call from the pharmacists and get in a lot of trouble.

And it isn't particularly expensive. Or dangerous. Or even as experimental at this stage.
