My parents smoked for a while and then gave it up, no fuss or explanations.
Father died of motor neurone disease, probably again Occupational Health and Safety issue, there's a lot of untested risk in using insecticides which he used on an industrial scale. We also had aerial crop dusters.
Mother still going strong at 90.
