You shouldn't flatter yourself, it isn't you personally that I am following closely; it was a particular, non-trivial, opinion that you expressed which left me with a heightened sense of expectation.

You see, I had assumed - wrongly, it now seems - that this opinion you expressed was borne out of a degree of conviction on your part (otherwise, why would you bother to explicitly express it in the first place?).

But it now appears that your prediction was little more than a throw-away line from you.

Of course, had it come to pass you would have looked like a rock star to your peers; but had it not (as turns out to be the case), then it was "only an expectation in an imperfect market."
