The difference with accelerated approval is that the FDA haven’t formally ticked off efficacy yet and have more levers to pull the product off the shelf if the confirmatory trial doesn’t meet its end points. And maybe more importantly the FDA doesn’t look as bad if it shows that it doesn’t work.
