   laymans = maybe its a human thing...ie a will to live through conditioning that medicine works and anything a doc gives you when suffering syptoms must help/be good.
   If medicines were tested against nothing ;placebo]? why test just go ahead and crank it in them.
   Without benchmarks where would we be today....less healthy or more????? If for instance 30000 yrs ago we lived not much past 30 years old. But how many modern diseases are there now, compared to say the plague or smallpox. Yet we can surpass 85 years old in the first world.
