I majored in history of science, and learned that experts, scientists and doctors can earnestly believe and think what they know to be Correct, yet be totally wrong when new science comes along. New theories and proofs come along to supplant prior worldviews. We're talking about paradigm shifts.
Historical examples:
- Ptolemy’s geocentric model of the universe (with the earth at the center) vs Copernicus’ heliocentric astronomy (with the sun at the center)
- The medieval theory of the four “humors” in medicine
- Darwin's theory of evolution
- Einstein’s theory of relativity
- Plate tectonics in geology
- Germ theory in medicine
- Cell Therapy?
