Honestly more than anything I am red faced with anger by the bot/algo transactions today. Alas i do concede, I am now part of the asx casino as some have pointed out, it's only fair to play by their rules, right? It just does not sit right for me, it makes me question the fundamental systems we so heavily rely on, these systems underpin our financial sectors which are the roots that feed our fragile yet growing economy. Does greed and corruption really rule us?
Of late, I look over the course of sales from a yet another "played with stock", and it's enough to make my stomach turn a little, actually a lot.
So what you might say, well picture this metaphor for me. A new retail investor fresh on the scene, looking to invest some money into his well being we come to the fine dining table at this high end restaurant where he/she puts their money into something they believe will be a fair trade in this example money=food. Now similarly to the ASX, once you have invested, abruptly and very rudely the market is out to shave off every penny of your investment for nothing in exchange. Without so much as a blink of the eye, we are suddenly put at different table still part of the restaurant however, but with no fancy waiter or champagne you will still get the steak but don't go counting on the sides and desert, all this with a smile mind you. (Retail investor is happy with the steak because they unknowingly gave up the other portion of the meal before they knew its true value.) I speak of an initial disadvantage not only in a market understanding sense but at the level of not understanding the cheating of the system and misappropriation of power within the ASX itself. For instance the installation of a fibre optic low latency bot trading system in their own server housing to cheat its own users for a profit is just mesmerising and of course worrisome on many levels. The aforementioned metaphor plays into how I feel sometimes with these market movements, other than one article here and there spread out over the last few years it really does seem that nobody cares and that it's just the way it is, Que Sera Sera comes to mind.
I suppose I want to reiterate my support for MSB as a wannabe LTSH I try and distance myself from the day to day trading prices. However I am still boiling my blood over the stuff that goes on day to day robbing people of monetary gains that would have potentially been there had the SP not been manipulated. I am sure my remarks are slightly off and am happy to be corrected. I just needed a outlet to vent about this issue and be heard by people who have experienced this frustration also.
Final remark.
I would love to see some action into preventing these kinds of market manipulations however realise we face a very uphill battle if the pockets are being kept full at all levels other than bottom. If anyone has looked into this before and come to some conclusions perhaps they could give some tips on how they dealt with it mentally.
Cheers SH
