correct! and hedge funds usually have "risk neutralized" positions using short positions: e.g. Long CBA and short a dollar weighted volatility equivalent of Westpac (e.g. they think CBA is underpriced in its own right or at least relative to other banks). In that sense it can tell us there is an element of "sell sentiment".
