margin calls? Other stocks have dropped sometimes vastly. If they borrowed to buy that stock they'd have to sell another stock like MSB to meet the margin call by the lender.
flight to imaginary safety? Like a decision to liquidate all speculative stock to buy gold. Or established performers like CSL. Similar mistakes were made by Teva when they decided to not fund MSBs other clinical trials and then leave the partnership. That made no sense to an outsider but it had it's own weird internal logic to a bone headed number cruncher.
