It's not as if there is no precedent. Doctor discussing with patient, we have a drug that is used for arthritis. It is called hydroxychloroquine. We don't know what dose to use and we know it has serious side effects such as cardiac arrhythmias and blood discrazias. Want to give it a whirl? Absolutely!! My president says it works therefore must work. Put it in the water for all Americans.
Drugs with very serious side effects are used 'off-label' every day with very little clinical support (and not approved by the FDA). Just give it a whirl and see if it works. People agree to this every day.
