The current leadership of Xi Jinping in China (supposedly appointed for an indefinite term) is trying to save face as the perception domestically within China is that he is messing up on trade policy.
Nobody wants a disruptive effect of trade wars but who wants it least in their domestic politics, Trump vs Xi is the question.
Interesting times!
