Paul Roy, CEO of Galaxy Racer Esports, said: “We have seen a huge shift towards esports, both globally and in the Middle East. By introducing these tournaments to the youth of Dubai, we are opening doors that could set up exciting futures. The gaming industry is the future of sports and entertainment. With close to US$140 billion in revenue last year, it is one of the highest revenue-generating industries, which means it can offer lucrative career options. Everyone would love to do it for a job, but they don’t know where to start. We will use these tournaments as a platform to educate both the youth and their parents on career options and pathways in the gaming and esports industries.”

Roy agreed, “Esports is growing about 34 per cent a year, viewership is more than the NFL and Esports teams are selling for about US$40 million, which would buy you a second tier football team in England. The industry is only five years old but it’s already bigger than the sports industry, last year the sports industry made US$93 billion, gaming made US$140 billion and the film industry made US$30-40 billion.“There’s massive potential to expand in this region and the job creation could be huge,” he added. “This is just the beginning in terms of bringing high level events here.”Last year, gaming revenues in the UAE were estimated to have reached Dh1.2 billion.

Paul Roy added that Galaxy will focus heavily on talent development – like “any football club” – and hosting events. The UAE team at the Girlgamer event will be a Galaxy team.“That will be the first of many that we want to put forward,” he said. “The two must be done together. You can’t build a football team unless you’ve got events to participate in.”Globally, the esports industry is estimated to have revenues of $1.1 billion, with a total audience of 453.8 million, according to statistics cited by Dubai’s government at the announcement of the Girlgamer event.“The Middle East is a good 8 to 10 percent of that,” Roy said. “It’s not small when you consider that China is 40 percent of it alone. When you exclude China, the rest of the world is in smaller slices.”

GIRLGAMER Esports Festival | World Finals 2020 Hosted by: Grow uP eSports, Evoloop, Galaxy Racer

A documentary movie which tells the story of girl gamers from around the world, shot in Macau, China during the first-ever GIRLGAMER Esports Festival in September 2017.

Set in the Portuguese summer of 2018, the movie follows competitors from Europe, Asia and America at the action-packed GIRLGAMER Esports Festival held at the elegant Casino Estoril.

Episode 3 of the GIRLGAMER esports festival documentary series is set to be released on July 4. This will feature the festival in Dubai which took place in February earlier this year and I'm thinking will include some insights from Paul Roy and the Galaxy Racer Team. Look at the sheer scale of the festival, the sponsors, the amount of cash behind this thing. The Middle East is truly a hotbed for esports, with RIVA and MSM in a prime position for success. Mr Massad needs to get on the phone with Mr. Roy and make sure the funds are locked in by July 4, 2020!!!
