OZ media, unlike the US media, have a split personality issue with defense and defense related issues. They consistently pour adulation upon our soldiers sailors, airpersons, police and fire fighters etc whilst disdaining and denigrating any tools introduced to assist in their task. The Taser is a case in point, used properly it has a role in police work yet the media constantly highlight the allegations of abuse in use rather than the benefit of the tool.

Whilst the tools are capably of misuse that does not invalidate their use as tools to assist in carrying out difficult work.

It seems to me that the best means to overcome this issue lies with the RSL and other service support organizations - as former or current workers in the area they have the experience to assess the value of what is offered and can "counsel" the media as to a change in approach. Once this starts then the stock market analysts may follow, then come the punters - we hope.
