Previously unrecognised effects of RNA modification on aerobic glycolysis in leukemia - and an FTO inhibitor, R-2HG, was shown to slow down glycolysis in these cells, which may provide a vital clue as to why FTO inhibition slows tumorigenesis and improves cancer outcomes. Note that this effect is only in R2HG sensitive leukemia cells, but could be achieved in all cells that overexpress FTO with a potent FTO inhibitor like bisantrene (1).

Also, studies measuring R2HG have used 300 uM to determine their findings (approximately 1700 to 13,000 fold larger concentration than bisantrene used in the city of hope) (2).
