the paperwork spiel for the brr you mention, states something to the effect, that the 800m ddh had 'interesting' results (i.e. not overall dissapointing)

these days the holes can be analysed downhole.
the orebody consists of pegmatitic (quartz/feldspar/muscovite) veins mineralised chiefly with Wolfram. This type of mineralisation can be 'seen' very effectively with a downhole televiewer (about 1/10th cost of drilling). The veins (pegmatitic) stick out like dogs balls in contrast to the country rock.

Of course if RAU cemented thes holes this ain't an option.

If the holes are pvc lined (often are) then a sonar, or 'acoustic' televiewer can be used to similar effect.
