Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull faces cabinet reshuffle just six months into the job

A ROLL call of outcasts and leave takers has robbed Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of a settled ministry just six months into his government.

Mr Turnbull will have to deal with the retirement at the next election of Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss, the Nationals Leader for nine years.

Yesterday, Trade Minister Andrew Robb announced he also would quit Parliament at the next election, although he will stay in his ministry until then.

And that’s on top of the likely loss of Stuart Robert, following the emergence of a photograph showing the Human Services Minister using his position to cultivate links with a Chinese businessman on behalf of wealthy mate Paul Marks.

The businessman, Li Ruipeng, gave guests at a Robert-organised dinner in Parliament House hugely expensive watches as gifts. When the value of the timepieces became known they were returned — to Mr Marks.

Mr Turnbull will also have to consider the empty ministries following the sacking of former Cities Minister Jamie Briggs after a late-night incident in Hong Kong, and the suspension of junior defence minister Mal Brough following police inquiries related to records taken from the office of former Speaker Peter Slipper.

The roll call would make up a rather impressive executive in any other circumstances, but for Mr Turnbull the list is a substantial political problem — within the Coalition and in the wider electorate.
