Battery prices aren't actually very sensitive to Cobalt prices, high Cobalt prices are sustainable and there's no reason to spend billions developing an alternative despite what the sensationalised news articles suggest.
Solid state batteries are the most 'credible' in terms of actually being invested in by automakers, they actually use ~20% more Lithium but I doubt they'll be seen in anything but high performance supercars.
