7.2 Conductor 2 - MTD005
Drill hole MTD005 was planned to test two low to medium strength EM conductors
(Upper and Lower Conductor 2) at depths of about 160 m and 190 m below surface. The
hole, which ended at a depth of 236 m, intersected the Mulga Tank Dunite and an
underlying sequence of sedimentary rocks and basalts.
The weathered zone in the ultramafic in MTD005 returned 21 m of elevated nickel from
78m depth which was interpreted as the along strike extension of a zone of disseminated
sulphides with up to 11 m at 0.37 % nickel and including 1 m at 1.12 % nickel from 220 m
intersected in hole MTD003 which was drilled 200 m to the South East by previous
explorers.
At 152 m depth high grade nickel – copper sulphide veins were intersected within the
basal contact zone of the Mulga Tank dunite, the veins dip steeply to the south and are
sub- parallel to the drill-hole, which was not orientated optimally to intersect them.
A 50 m thick zone of widespread and locally abundant late fractures and veinlets of
chalcopyrite, pyrite and lesser sphalerite has been intersected from about 165 m (Photo’s
5a and 5b). The top 20 m of this copper-zinc zone comprises a 20 metre wide zone of
extensive pyrrhotite.
A review of previous assays from hole MTD003 (which was drilled by previous
explorers) indicates a similar 50 m thick zone of copper occurs below the Mulga Tank
Dunite with numerous assays up to 0.5% copper over 1 metre intervals in places.
A 10 cm wide quartz vein within a one metre wide zone of silica alteration was
intersected at a depth of 167.5 m, assay results indicate that the vein contains elevated
silver (0.3 g/t) and weak palladium (47 ppb) as well as zinc (1.47%). Weak palladium and
platinum results of up to 50 ppb also occur in the surrounding zone of silica alteration.
Accordingly late stage extensive and widespread copper sulphide has now been found
in the immediate footwall of the Mulga Tank Dunite over at least 200 metres of strike
between MTD003 and MTD005 and which is open in all directions.
Significant assays from MTD005 include:
21 m at 0.39 % nickel from 78 m within weathered dunite;
