re: mul haters have no idea!!! - new skies Hi Bronk,

I've enjoyed our exchanges - at least they have been informative.

Regarding the following observation, I must, however, take issue:
"The difference is MUL and NewSkies are in different markets".

    Is this really the case?

NewSkies are active here in Australia and are a licensed telecommunications carrier (is MUL?).

Check the following URL for more information:

According to the NewSkies Australian website:

    Corporate

New Skies Networks Pty Ltd (NSN) is a telecommunications carrier and one of Australia’s leading satellite service providers supplying a broad range of integrated services to government and enterprise users throughout Australasia, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions. With its corporate headquarters located in Sydney, New South Wales, NSN is 100% owned by Dutch satellite operator New Skies Satellites N.V. (NSS) headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands and which listed on the New York and Amsterdam Stock Exchanges (NSK) in October 2000.

    Earth Stations/Mediaports

NSN maintains extensive earth station infrastructure across Australia, providing C and Ku-Band access to both Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean satellites. Major mediaports operate in Sydney NSW, Adelaide SA and Perth WA providing 24x7 manned operation and client network management. Additional earth stations exist in Melbourne Vic, Brisbane Qld and Darwin NT to support additional client service requirements.

    Satellite Fleet

NSS currently operates a global fleet of six in-orbit satellites with additional satellites in production for launch in 2002 and 2003. NSS is one of only four satellite operators worldwide who can claim complete global coverage.

    Services

NSN provides a broad range of satellite-based services to government and enterprise users, both within Australia and internationally, which include managed voice and data networks, Internet, Intranet and multicast/multimedia. These can be provided either via dedicated, private networks or on a cost-effective, shared-hub basis. NSN also provides regional satellite operators with Telemetry, Tracking and Control (TT&C) and other operationally-related services.

NSN’s solutions support applications for Wide Area Networking (WAN), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Point of Sale (POS), remote voice and data networks, high speed Internet delivery, multicast file delivery and streaming media, business television, distance learning and other related applications. Transportable earth station services are also available for short term or interim communications services and disaster recovery requirements.

NSN acknowledges the mutual benefits accruing from strategic relationships with synergistic manufacturers, service and content providers in today's marketplace. Accordingly, we at NSN constantly seek suitable organisations with which to partner in the provision of integrated, value-added services to our clients. Contact us here in the first instance.
