Well, we certainly haven't integrated with the indigenous population!
I think in Europe the recent migration waves have been too large and numerous. For the UK, too many brown Asians at one go, allied with a surge of Poles. No time for small numbers to be absorbed, so the effect is much more noticeable. Plus. possibly some xenophobia caused by Islam extremist bombers, although I didn't notice any of that when I was there last year.
If they integrated, it wouldn't be multicultural. Surely, multicultural means that cultures are different? So if it is a failure, then the different cultures are not getting on.
Germany is traditionally intolerant of foreigners of any sort, although we know Germans who are working hard to break that down. But they have an uphill struggle.
I suspect most of the comments are for political purposes. Merkel and Cameron are on tight majorities.
