Actually I have often wondered about this...

I know a couple of people that have borderline personality disorder type symptoms and also see some similarities in our current PM. Not saying it is so, but it is curious nevertheless. Below is some of the similarities I have noticed:

    1. Rarely is anything their fault - it's always projected to someone else. (e.g. always blaming Abbott)

    2. Although they are often highly intelligent, they may also see themselves as more important than us other mere earthlings whom can be looked on with contempt - especially those with whom they do not agree or find fault.

    3. Lack of empathy.

    4. Strong powers of persuasion, manipulative and controlling. In other words, they can cook up a very convincing story even if it's not entirely true.

    5. Often verbally abusive to others with whom they don't agree. (e.g. belittling Abbott with personal insults.)

    6. Truth becomes distorted to reflect whatever they want. Even if it degrades to outright lies - it is still "truth" to them.( eg claiming a mandate where none exists.)

    7. When put on the spot, they will so often slightly shift the conversation to distract from a question they don't want to answer. (we see this happening regularly with the PM avoiding questions or choosing instead to answer with unrelated statements.)

The above is based on my own observations of symptoms displayed in people I know who have personality disorders, however have supplied a link below which gives more detail on the disorder.

and an excerpt explaining the use of "borderline" in this context:

"Historically, BPD has been thought to be a set of symptoms that include both mood problems (neuroses) and distortions of reality (psychosis), and therefore was thought to be on the borderline between mood problems and schizophrenia. However, it is now understood that while the symptoms of BPD may straddle those symptom complexes, this illness is more closely related to other personality disorders in terms of how it may develop and occur within families."
