Hence why I get angry when people bag the cops for apparently using "excessive force" when dealing with violent people suffering a mental health episode.
Granted a couple of instances do indeed appear excessive but an overwhelming majority it is simply necessary!
I've witnessed and been subjected to people that are apparently compliant and like the flick of a switch the rapid and extreme intensification to an extreme level of violence is incredible! Especially when an edged weapon is involved.
Once it's occurred its too late to say coulda, shoulda, woulda and usually injuries then result, often to both police and the individual!
So, many a cop, if being shown pre fight indicators or an unwillingness to comply will act immediately to pre empt and prevent that situation occurring.
Unfortunately a high level of force is sometimes required. This sometimes is unfortunately viewed by many as excessive but is in fact prudent and necessary!
Mental health is a major concern and if people only knew how many really dangerous people were out there amongst the public they would be horrified!
