For some time now I have been watching and analysing the dynamics of the market/s. It is becoming apparent that the external investor forces that shape the market are changing. The activities of the last 3 days are a good example. Briefly:
1: "mum & dad" investors, the small day traders, Smsf's, on line investors, appear to be influencing the direction more and more.
What would be the effect on the market If they became a cohesive group, (through avenues such as HC)?
2: with the above in mind, can the Federal government of this country, (or other counties), continue to turn a blind eye to the ineptitude of the market regulatory authorities, (ASIC, APRA,)? particularly given the most active investment group will be the baby boomers, who also have the most political clout.
3: Given the two points above, can the existing fund managers survive? Basically they have become lazy, using the vast amounts of money at their disposal to force trends in stocks. This in itself is perhaps something that ASIC should look at, but that aside, as smaller investors mature this will not be so easy as they refuse to follow the trend.
Any thoughts?
